146th Anniversary, Princes Town​

(Reposted from Facebook): On Tuesday 20th January, 2026, the Princes Town Regional Corporation (PTRC) commemorated the 146th anniversary of Princes Town Day with an Interfaith Service held at St. Stephen’s Anglican Church.
In attendance to mark the occasion were the Honourable Khadijah Ameen, Minister of Rural Development and Local Government, and MP for St. Augustine; the Honourable Dr. Aiyna Ali, MP for Princes Town; the Honourable Michelle Benjamin, the Minister of Culture and Community Development and MP for Moruga/Tableland; the Honourable Dr. Narindra Roopnarine, Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Culture and Community Development and MP for Naparima; along with Mrs. Sheriffa Heru, Chief Executive Officer, PTRC; Councillor Gowie Roopnarine, Chairman, PTRC; Councillors of the Municipality; specially invited guests; and well-wishers.

Sangre Grande Regional Corporation "Youth Council" ​
​
The Sangre Grande Regional Corporation successfully hosted its' Youth Council, engaging students from schools within the municipality. This initiative aims to empower young people by fostering a more inclusive and participatory community.
​
Through this programme, students were introduced to the functions and roles of the Municipal Corporation and its Councillors, explored the policy-making processes that affect them, and were given opportunities to participate, build leadership skills, and gain insight into the foundations of municipal governance. The Honourable Khadijah Ameen, Minister of Rural Development and Local Government, delivered remarks encouraging students to make the most of this meaningful opportunity.

New Inter-Ministerial Committee - Gated Communities
​
We congratulate TTALGA Executive Committee Member, Desell Josiah Austin (Chairman, Councillor, Tunapuna / Piarco Regional Corporation) on his appointment as a member of the Inter-Ministerial Committee to Develop a National Policy and Guidelines for Gated Communities.
​
​​This new Committee will be under the purview of the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government and will be holding consultations with relevant stakeholders, as regards the safety and security of communities in Trinidad and Tobago. The aim is to develop a national standard policy which would serve to guide the establishment and operations of gated communities, and this Committee has been tasked with presenting its findings and recommendations for consideration by the Cabinet of the Government of Trinidad and Tobago. We wish our member success in this exciting and important endeavor!

The Executive of TTALGA, under the astute stewardship of its Chairman, Akeliah Glasgow-Warner, Vice Chairman, Doodnath Mayhroo and Finance Chairman, Josiah Austin initiated an advocacy meeting held September 11th 2025 (accompanied by all Mayors and Chairmen) the negotiating team held critical discussions on compensation and arrears following the 120th SRC Report.

On Thursday May 1, 2025, the Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar SC, Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago was sworn into office by Her Excellency Christine Carla Kangaloo ORTT, President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. The ceremony also saw Senator the Honourable John Jeremie SC, being sworn in as the Attorney General.

By Saturday 3rd May, 2025, the new members of Cabinet of the Government of Trinidad and Tobago were also sworn in by Her Excellency Christine Carla Kangaloo ORTT, President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. ​

Preliminary Results of the 2025 Parliamentary Elections
The Parliamentary Elections in Trinidad & Tobago (also known as the "General Elections") were held on Monday April 28th 2025. As per a press release from the Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC), detailed preliminary results have been provided that would indicate the United National Congress (UNC) as the leading party, securing 26 of the 41 constituencies. The People’s National Movement secured 13, and the Tobago People’s Party secured 2.
